Who is a flight dispatcher?
Have you heard about our flight dispatcher course? Now available online! Complete it comfortably, at your own pace, from anywhere.
The professional responsible for planning and overseeing the technical and operational aspects of a flight. Responsible for selecting the most suitable route for a flight, considering factors such as weather conditions, airspace restrictions, and fuel consumption.
Their work involves close coordination with pilots, air traffic controllers, and other professionals to ensure every operation is carried out safely and efficiently — monitoring weather changes, managing fuel, and acting as the link between the aircraft and the airline, especially during emergencies.
Flight Dispatcher vs. Ground Handling Agent
The flight dispatcher works in an office, at the airline’s operations control center, planning and monitoring flights with access to advanced information systems and planning tools. This role is not performed at the airport.
The ground handling agent works in the airport environment, managing baggage, cargo, passenger assistance, and ramp coordination. Both roles are essential to aviation, but they operate in very different contexts — if your goal is to work at an airport, this course is not the best fit for you.
